Marketing & Strategy’s class of 2017 has graduated!
It’s 7 pm on Friday, December 8th, 2017 in the Edgar Faure amphitheater: music sounds the opening of Commencement Ceremonies for the 180 graduates of Dauphine’s seven Master’s programs in Marketing & Strategy.
As the graduates filed on stage, they were welcomed by Guy de Tonquédec, a 1st year Master’s student, before taking their place in the stands, cheered on by the applause of over 400 parents and friends.
In her welcome address, Sabine Mage, Paris-Dauphine’s Vice President Academics and Student Life, emphasized that for the students, the ceremony “is an important mark of recognition for the hard work they put forth during their years of study. Paris- Dauphine is an atypical institution in France’s academic landscape, and can count on numerous assets. But of all our assets, the most important are our students - they are a critical source of initiative and creativity.” Paris-Dauphine must continue to attract high-caliber students by successfully navigating “the teaching and digital transformation,” by maintaining “high level academic research” that irrigates “teaching with knowledge with the most recent advances in our fields,” by engaging “fully with Paris Sciences et Lettres – PSL Research University” (…) “of which you are also graduates,” by remaining “an exemplary institution in terms of social responsibility, notably thanks to the Equal Opportunity Admissions program financed by Fondation Paris-Dauphine,” and by adapting our facilities to meet the challenges of the 21st century, “by implementing an ambitious renovation program for our Porte Dauphine campus.”
Valérie Guillard, coordinator for Dauphine’s Master’s programs in Marketing & Strategy, was the next speaker to address the graduating class: ”Your relationship with Paris-Dauphine began the moment you applied for admission and developed over time, from the admissions selection process and interviews, to this very moment, in and out of class, in exams, through your hard work, our constructive criticism, and the academic and personal challenges you have faced and overcome. Paris-Dauphine is demanding, and we know it! High standards and rigor also guarantee the quality of your degrees. (…). Our relationship is multifaceted, and has been enriched through the your projects and achievements. One stands out in my mind: La Ruche Qui Dit Oui (The Hive That Says Yes), entirely student-managed.” She concluded by inviting the graduating class to act as “ambassadors for Paris-Dauphine’s programs in Marketing & Strategy. I encourage you to nurture the special relationship that has grown between you and Dauphine. We need your on-going support so that our Marketing & Strategy programs, of which you are so proud to be graduates, continue to advance and flourish.”
Enfin, The final speaker before the commencement ceremony itself was Antoine Jouteau, Chief Executive, Leboncoin, who talked about his post-Dauphine career path. “My early career was quite traditional: Product Manager and then Brand Manager. Back then, I believed that ideal path to success was to move up the ranks in a major corporation. Ten years ago, I decided that it was time to take a few risks and join a newer company, one that at the time had a team of just 5 people. Today, Leboncoin employs 750 people and represents a transaction flow of over €20 billion annually.” He concluded by encouraging graduates to “be bold, take risks, explore industries and activities outside your comfort zone and different from those that seemed the most attractive during your studies such as the luxury or mass distribution sectors;” and above all, “find a job you truly enjoy – it’s the key to a successful career!”
And now for the ceremony!
The high point of the evening was, of course, commencement itself. In a room where the excitement was palpable, one by one, graduates from Marketing & Strategy’s 7 programs stepped forward to receive their diplomas. Below are a few images of the ceremony:
