Startup of the month: Whoomies, a rising star(t- up)!
Whoomies, currently incubated at Paris-Dauphine’s D-Incubator, launched the market’s first mobile app using matching technology to help find the right roommate. Spotlight on a rising star!
In November 2016, inspired by their own disappointing apartment-sharing experiences, Lauren Dannay (Université Paris-Dauphine) and Alexandre Assal (IÉSEG School of Management, ex Criteo) decided to create a startup to develop and commercialize a mobile app that helps users find THE right roommate. Whoomies, their mobile application, is based on an algorithm that takes matching a step further than current dating site technologies.
How are they doing, one year in?
Lauren and Alexandre joined the ranks of D-Incubator in March 2017. One year later, after an initial capital campaign, Whoomies V1 is available on most app stores. Encouraged by their Parisian success, Lauren and Alexandre have set up a UK subsidiary at the Google Campus in London. Their ambition: conquer the dynamic London flat-share market by convincing the city’s real estate agencies to use the Whoomies platform to post their offers.
2018: full speed ahead!
2018 is going to be quite a year for the Whoomies team. They have just won Cap Digital’s "Startup Project” competition. The prize: 9 months of advisory and support from Babel, 2017 (French) Integrated Agency of the Year (clients include St. Gobain, Aéroport de Paris, Nuxe, Haribo, and the RATP). Their goals for 2018: launch Whoomies in France’s 15 biggest cities, speed-up their UK development, complete a second capital campaign, and bring a team on board to continue developing the app.
